AmeriCorps Program

The American Red Cross in Greater New York (ARC/GNY) is responding to the national call to service and the needs of our community by expanding our AmeriCorps program. AmeriCorps is a federal government program that partners adults of all ages with non-profit organizations, public agencies, and faith-based organizations. More than 70,000 individuals join AmeriCorps annually, totaling more than 500,000 members.

AmeriCorps members directly impact the lives of the more than 9 million people in our Chapter’s service area by participating in mission-driven activities of preparing our communities for and responding to disasters and emergencies. As an AmeriCorps member with ARC/GNY, you can:

  • Equip individuals, non-profit and faith-based organizations, and corporations to be prepared in advance for emergencies of all sizes
  • Ensure the ability for our communities to sustain and restore themselves through volunteer capacity-building activities
  • Participate in recovery efforts through direct disaster response both locally and through national deployments

American Red Cross in Greater New York offers volunteer opportunities in three AmeriCorps programs:

AMERICORPS NPRC
AmeriCorps NPRC members are full-time volunteers serving for ten months in disaster preparedness and response. Members serving with ARC/GNY staff are guided by the goals of the National Preparedness and Response Corps to provide direct service to clients of the American Red Cross. These goals focus on supporting the community in response to disasters and helping to advance preparedness efforts to prevent and mitigate emergencies. Due to the nature of the program, shifts vary to meet the needs of the New York community. Members receive a living stipend of $15,000 for the program year and are eligible for an education award upon successful completion of the program. Positions are available throughout the Chapter service area (New York City, Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Sullivan Counties).
