Child Care Providers

The New York State Office of Children and Family Services has designated the American Red Cross in Greater New York an authorized provider of Safety Training for Child Care Providers. This class is free of charge; however, you must meet the following prerequisites in order to register and attend the classes.

Who is eligible?

• You must be a NYS licensed/registered child-care provider.
• You must work in family/group day care, a day care center, or a school age program. (Day-care center staff in the boroughs of New York City is not eligible, only family or group-family providers.)
• You must provide the child-care agency license number where you are employed at the time of registration.
• Providers may take up to two classes in the same year at no cost (space permitting).

How to register?

* You must enter your New York State Childcare License number or your registration will not be processed and you will not be allowed to take the class. We are not able to take phone registrations.

Child Care: First Aid (4-hour course)
Learn how to recognize and care for:
  • Burns, bleeding and shock
  • Injuries to muscles, bones and joints
  • Head and spinal injuries
  • Heat and cold emergencies, including hypothermia and heat stroke
  • Bites and stings
  • Sudden illnesses, stroke, seizure and poisoning
Child Care: Adult, Infant & Child CPR (8-hour course)
Learn how to:
  • Gain the confidence to act quickly and competently during an emergency
  • Recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies
  • Check scene and call for help
  • Perform CPR on a person suffering from sudden cardiac arrest
  • Give rescue breathing
  • Minimize the effects of shock
  • Care for choking victims of all ages

    Al fin de esta clase usted será capaz de:
    • Reconocer y resolver emergencias de respiración y cardiacas

    • Ejecutar RCP en una persona sufriendo de arresto cardiaco
    • Dar respiración artificial de rescate
    • Minimizar los efectos de un choque
    • Afrontar situaciones con víctimas de todas las edades que se estén atragantando
    • Ganar la confianza para actuar rápido y competentemente durante una emergencia
