Marketing & Public Relations Intern

Opportunity Description: The Marketing and Public Relations Department serves the American Red Cross in Greater New York (ARC/GNY) as an in-house communications agency. In addition to having a primary project, interns will support the day-to-day activities of the department. The scope of the individual project will depend on the intern’s experience.
Responsibilities:
  • Writing, editing and proofing communications materials
  • Assisting in the graphic design of print or Web-based material
  • Assisting in the marketing support of organizational events. (i.e. Annual Red Cross Ball, various fundraising events, Volunteer Recognition Event )
  • Supporting ARC/GNY social networking activities (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, blog outreach)
  • Additional administrative assistance as needed
Semester: Summer 2010
Time Commitment: 14 hours per week (2 full days)
Qualifications:
  • College curriculum in Marketing, Communications, and/or Public Relations preferred
  • Strong writing skills (will be asked to submit writing samples)
  • Ability to work both independently and on a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of graphics software (preferably InDesign)
  • Knowledege of Flash a plus
  • Web or blog experience a plus
