The Red Cross workers remained on the scene for several hours providing water and snacks for nearly 130 firefighters battling the blaze. On Friday night, September 3, Hurricane Earl drifted eastward, having minimal impact on eastern Long Island and its residents. The area was hit with some heavy rain, steady winds, and according to State officials, significant beach erosion in some areas. After heavy rains caused flooding in the Laurelton section of Queens, the NY Red Cross sent relief workers to the scene to provide assistance to affected residents from the 33 dwellings impacted by the incident. The Red Cross estimates that over 100 people were affected by the flooding, and distributed flood cleanup kits and dry clothing to those in need of this immediate emergency care.
