NY Red Crosser Heads Up Advance Team Deployed to U.S. Virgin Islands Relief OperationThe American Red Cross is keeping a close watch on Hurricane Earl as the storm gains strength in the Atlantic Ocean, threatening the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, with possible effects along the East Coast later this week. After heavy rains caused flooding in the Laurelton section of Queens, the NY Red Cross sent relief workers to the scene to provide assistance to affected residents from the 33 dwellings impacted by the incident. The Red Cross estimates that over 100 people were affected by the flooding, and distributed flood cleanup kits and dry clothing to those in need of this immediate emergency care. NY Red Cross relief workers provided compassionate assistance to those affected by a fatal 3-alarm fire that tore through a two-story home at 302 Nicholas Avenue on Staten Island at approximately 4 a.m. this morning. A deluge of rain from tropical storm Agatha has flooded communities and caused hundreds of landslides in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.
