Volunteer

Volunteer Do Great Things Every Day!

Volunteers comprise 98% of the Red Cross workforce and are involved in many Red Cross programs and services.

Help your neighbors when they need it most—become a Red Cross volunteer, and be empowered to perform extraordinary acts in the face of emergency.

Some volunteers work on a regular weekly, monthly, or quarterly schedule throughout the year, others on an as-needed basis.

Many volunteers lend their support on the weekends or after a daytime job, others have greater flexibility during regular business hours.

Before You Begin

    • You must be over  the age of 18 to apply for a volunteer opportunity listed here. If you are in high school, please read more about our High School Clubs or, if you are in College or University, our Campus Clubs may be for you.
    • We offer volunteer positions based on our current needs. There may be a limited number of openings for some positions.
    • A few volunteer opportunities offer weekend and after hours scheduling but most (administrative) are available only during regular business hours, Monday through Friday.
    • We welcome and encourage medical professionals to apply; but our region does not offer any volunteer opportunities directly relating to the medical or nursing fields, nor do our volunteers practice or dispense medicine or directly engage in phlebotomy.
    • Our region cannot fulfill hours needed for court-ordered community service or short-term community service required by academic institutions.
    • Excluding internships, short term volunteer opportunities (3 to 6 months) are rarely available and training requirements make them unsuitable for visitors to New York.
    • The American Red Cross does not deploy volunteers to international disaster relief efforts.
