September 11 Commemorative Events
American Red Cross in Greater New York
Commemorates Third Anniversary of 9/11
As parents read the names of their loved ones, experienced Red
Cross mental health volunteers helped family members, rescue
workers, uniformed personnel and other participants cope with their
grief at the third anniversary of the tragic events of September 11,
2001.
In addition, more than 100 specially trained local volunteers
provided water and snacks.
“This commemoration was a poignant time for many New Yorkers.
Many people experienced a wide range of feelings at the ceremony and
our Red Cross mental health volunteers were there to help them
through the difficult day,” said Lauren Ginsberg, C.S.W., director
of Health and Mental Health for ARC/GNY.
ARC/GNY also worked with our partners at the New York City Office
of Emergency Management, New York Cares, Project Liberty and the New
York Mental Health Association and Red Cross staff members
participated in the all-agency Honor Guard made up of City, State,
Federal and nonprofit agencies.
