Story Ideas
We can help you develop a compelling and timely story for your audience. Maybe it's an inspirational feature about a dedicated volunteer or it's an educational story about how we are helping kids in Greater New York. Call us now to learn more.
- Local emergencies.
At a major fire, building collapse or other local disaster we are on the scene in minutes, helping the first responders as well as those directly affected. We offer you timely and updated information about how we are helping those affected.
- Winter storm? Heat wave? Water safety?
Our health and safety experts offer authoritative information to help your audience prepare for these events and other natural disasters. Click here for a variety of safety tips that we can provide an expert to demonstrate and discuss.
- Social services.
There is more to the Red Cross than responding to disasters. Our social service programs include assistance to hundreds of homeless families and emergency communications to hundreds of armed forces families in our area.
- Doing an "Everyday Hero" story?
We have thousands of New Yorkers who volunteer with us everyday. Some ride along in the evenings to respond to families affected by fires or emergencies; others help moms and their children in our homeless services program; our 1500 youth volunteers help in their communities and collect holiday gifts for children in need.
- A Disaster Action Team ride-along.
Bring your crew along for a ride with one of our Disaster Action Teams (DAT). DAT volunteers leave the Red Cross headquarters at 5:00 PM and often return well after midnight. They respond to fires and other emergencies by offering free American Red Cross assistance to help people get back on their feet.
- Attend a health and safety training class.
Every day the American Red Cross is teaching people in Greater New York how to save lives. We teach CPR and First Aid with Automated External Defibrillator training and more in each borough. Click here to see our course listings.
- Prepare for the Unexpected.
Visit our "Preparing For The Unexpected" class held every Thursday at the American Red Cross in Greater New York headquarters. It's free and we can even teach it at your location! Click here to learn more. |
