Community Outreach

Community Outreach

The Community Outreach service area connects ARC/GNY youth volunteers with the local community. The youth participate in many outreach events and aid the ARC/GNY in distributing important safety and preparedness information at street and health fairs. Youth also have the opportunity to be trained and teach various children’s safety and preparedness programs and the Prepare New York course to members of their local communities.

Youth volunteers participate in street and health fairs and events such as the MS Bike Tour , March of Dimes, AIDS Walk and planting bulbs at Riverside Park.

Disaster Planning & Repsonse

Disaster Planning & Repsonse

The Disaster Planning and Response service area provides youth volunteers with the basic training that is needed to assist in an emergency or disaster when youth turn 18 years of age. Youth participate in providing integral behind the scenes preparatory assistance for the department.

Homework Help

After school, youth volunteers have the opportunity to tutor children affected by homelessness or disaster at one of two homeless shelters. By participating in this service area, youth volunteers get the warm feeling that your are helping a member of their community.

International Services

International Services

Did you know that our National Society, the American Red Cross, is one of 186 National Societies around the world? Together with the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, they form the International Red Cross Movement. Youth have the opportunity to sign up for our Exploring Humanitarian Law (EHL) Program, organize events for the American Red Cross Measles and Malaria Initiatives and investigate the youth and chapter relationship with the United Nations.

Special Events

Special Events

Special Events is responsible for planning and executing the Youth Group’s various events. The two major annual events are the Book & Toy Drive and the Spring Event. The Book and Toy Drive occurs during the holiday season. The Youth Group works together to collect donations to buy books and toys for homeless children. The Spring Event consists of a dance party, where all funds raised are donated to the American Red Cross Measles Initiative and youth college scholarships.

Safety & Preparedness

Safety & Preparedness

Youth volunteers are able to become certified in lifesaving skills and on track to becoming a certified Red Cross instructor at the age of 16. This experience also looks amazing on your college application & resume, and youth will be equipped with the skills to be able to safe a life.

Volunteer Intake

Volunteer Intake

Youth volunteers will run and assist with the bimonthly Youth Volunteer Orientation Sessions that admit the new members to the ARC/GNY Youth Group. Youth volunteers regularly publicize the exciting activities that the Youth Group is performing, and then encourage people to join the Youth Group and register for the next Orientation Session.

Other Opportunities

1. Youth Internship Program
The mission of the Youth Internship Program is to provide ARC/GNY youth volunteers with meaningful opportunities to assist their community through involvement with American Red Cross activities while gaining real world experience in an office environment. Internships provide our youth volunteers with stimulating and challenging projects that enhance the student's professional experience and skills.

2.  Administrative Role
As a Red Cross youth volunteer we will always appreciate your assistance in a variety of ways. Youth have the opportunity to perform clerical duties such as filing, printing, making copies, organizing mass mailings and much more. This work is very important to the overall success of all ARC/GNY activities. You will also gain important office experience.
