Through November 30, 2008 in Putnam County, the Chapter:
- Responded to 9 fires and other emergencies
- Assisted 25 adults and children with food, shelter and/or counseling following a disaster
Notable Activities in 2008:
Ashburton Road Fire
After a predawn blaze destroyed a one-story home at 34 Ashburton Road in Lake Carmel on November 8, ARC/GNY relief workers responded to the scene. Working in partnership with the Western Connecticut American Red Cross, they offered snacks, beverages and mental health support to the family of three adults and three children. They also worked with the Westchester Red Cross to secure temporary housing at a Westchester hotel for the victims, including a fourth child not at home at the time of the fire.
Philipstown Fire Response
Two volunteers and one paid staff member from the Chapter's Putnam/West Point office responded to an early morning fire on February 4th at a cluster of attached cabins on Route 9 in Philipstown, New York. One cabin was affected. At the scene, they provided three adults and four children affected by the blaze with financial assistance for clothing, food and other immediate needs. One household of two adults also received emergency overnight housing.
