Disaster Planning & Response Reserves
Department: Disaster Planning & Response
Location: 520 West 49th St.
New York, NY 10019
Responsibilities: DP&R Reserves staff specific functional teams to respond to larger disasters. Such disaster operations often require staff 24 hours daily for multiple weeks. Reserve volunteers specialize in their function(s) and support their learning by planning and running drills, observing recurrent operations, and optionally participating in response to national disasters through the DSHR system.
• Responds to disasters in the capacity mentioned above
• Chooses a functional specialty and completes all necessary training
• Plans and participates in two training events annually
Qualifications: Comfortable in fast-paced situations
Patience and problem solving skills a must
Ability to work well both independently and with a team
Ability to promote and maintain productive working relationships with a variety of individuals with diverse backgrounds
Training: Volunteer Orientation (2 hours)
Fulfilling Our Mission (3 hours)
Training in the appropriate specialty
Other: Commits to 4 activities annually. These may include:
• Additional Training
• Exercises/Drills
• Disaster Responses
• Disaster Meetings
Time Commitment: Must commit to shifts of 8 - 12 hours at two disasters anually (minimum) and keep the staffing department aware of their updated availability.
