| Responsibilities: |
Disaster Services Trainers introduce volunteers, partner groups, and employees to American Red Cross disaster relief protocols and the challenges of disaster relief work. Additionally, they cross-train veteran relief workers to expand their skill set. Trainers are responsible for the accurate dissemination of protocols and to prepare workers for assignment.
• Participates in 10 trainings annually (classes, exercises or operational trainings)
o Arrives 1 hour prior to start of class for course preparation
o Sets-up and take-down classrooms; including course materials, some IT equipment, and other supplies
o Begins and ends courses as scheduled
• Participates in an annual review with the training department
• Attends an annual trainer meeting
• Conducts ongoing independent research on chapter and national policies, procedures, and protocols
• Signs and adheres to the National and Local Instructor Agreement. Completes courses according to national standards – following curriculum and completing necessary paperwork
• Actively participates in the activity they teach
• Dresses appropriately for the environment: Business, Business Casual, or Field Attire
• Teaches only what you are authorized to teach and when scheduled by Disaster Training
• Timely correspondence |

| Qualifications: |
One year of service with the American Red Cross
Disaster relief experience relevant to the activity you will be teaching
Thorough understanding of policies, regulations and procedures that apply to the activity you will teach, and know how the function interacts with the other activities on a disaster relief operation
Meet all instructor qualifications listed on the fact sheet for the course including a current professional license or certificate to practice as a CNA, EMT, LPN/LVN, PA, RN, or MD
Completion of the following:
• Fulfilling Our Mission (or Intro to Disaster)
• Community Services (or Mass Care)
• 3 other Basic Disaster Training Courses
Submission of a one page resume detailing ARC experience, teaching and public speaking experience, and other relevant experience
Submission of supervisor’s recommendation specifying course recommended to teach and why
Successful interview with Disaster Training and Exercises
Conduct 15 minute presentation which demonstrates a dynamic presence through lecture and group facilitation |

Volunteer Orientation (2 hours)
Pre-interview:
Basic training courses
Post-interview for candidate trainers and trainers:
Fundamentals of Instruction and Facilitation
Disaster Instructor Specialty Training (DIST), 13 hrs over the course of 2 days
Continuing education in respective subject and access to SMEs
Public speaking workshops/tutorials
IT workshops/tutorials
