Senior Coordinator, Response Volunteer Program, Staten Island
Reports To: Assistant Director, NYC Response Volunteer Program
Department: Disaster Planning & Response
Location: Staten Island
Category: Full-Time
Primary Function: Manages Volunteer Response Program in Staten Island, including interviewing prospective disaster volunteers and providing guidance to volunteers regarding placement. Participates in developing and implementing volunteer retention plans. Supervises and schedules response volunteers. Participates in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
Responsibilities: 1. Manages the Volunteer Response Program including interviewing prospective disaster volunteers and providing guidance to volunteers regarding placement. Participates in developing and implementing volunteer retention plans.

2. Supervises response volunteers. Establishes volunteer performance expectations and ensures that they are met. Evaluates volunteer performance and career development needs to facilitate growth and improvement through direction, support, training and teamwork.

3. Collaborates with other response unit staff to schedule response volunteers and ensure 24/7 disaster response coverage.

4. Works with the Disaster Training unit to ensure access to on-going training for response volunteers. Identifies and recommends disaster response volunteers for advanced training and promotion.

5. Facilitates communication between Response Management and disaster response volunteers, including changes to standard operating procedures. Facilitates monthly disaster response volunteer meetings.

6. Participates in the development of and implements procedures to ensure that response volunteers receive appropriate technical support.

7. Maintains and inventories disaster supplies and equipment and ensures that response volunteers have the appropriate equipment in order to respond to disasters.

8. Manages the use of response vehicles according to ARC/GNY guidelines. Ensures vehicles are adequately maintained and stocked at all times.

9. Participates in the development of the disaster response plans, protocols, procedures and agreements for New York City.

10. Coordinates with Area Office staff and other disaster units regarding non-response activities and events in New York City.

11. Participates in an on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 disaster response staffing for New York City.

12. Performs other duties and special projects as required.
Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

Experience: Minimum of three years experience in disaster response, emergency management or related field. Minimum of three years experience in developing or working with volunteers. Minimum of two years of supervisory experience. American Red Cross experience preferred.

Related Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to lead, motivate and train volunteers. Ability to work independently. Good presentation and organizational skills. Skills in formulating and implementing realistic solutions. Detail oriented with ability to work under pressure and in difficult situations (disaster). Knowledge of office systems, MS-Office preferred.
