| Responsibilities: |
The Emergency Communications Representative works collaboratively within the Emergency Communications Center (ECC), the 24-hour-a-day “nerve center” of Disaster Planning & Response (DPR), to provide emergency assistance and communications to American Red Cross clients—both internal and external—impacted by local and national disasters.
• Monitors, tracks and documents disaster-related events utilizing fire scanners, Fire Department printer, weather radios, BNN and other communications media.
• Notifies and dispatches appropriate ARC/GNY staff regarding emergency situations.
• Recommends and initiates request for additional support needed at disaster sites.
• Schedules additional site visits to disaster-affected residences when previous field visits are unsuccessful.
• Tracks and documents in-shift movement of DPR resources (including staff, vehicles, and field equipment).
• Coordinates hotel arrangements for clients in need of lodging. Facilitates remote activation and reload of Client Assistance Cards after business hours.
• Answers main phone line. Assists disaster clients via telephone and provides information regarding eligibility for ARC/GNY services. Screens and forwards call appropriately. |

| Qualifications: |
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and strong customer service orientation.
Detail oriented, works well under pressure, ability to relate to people of different ethnic and economic backgrounds.
Proficient in MS-Office; multilingual a plus (Spanish, Chinese, Russian).
Knowledge of ARC/GNY programs and services preferred, but not prerequisite. |
