Youth Disaster Corps Adult Supervisor
Department: Volunteer Resources
Location: 520 West 49th Street
New York, NY 10019
Primary Function: The Youth Disaster Corps Adult Supervisor will supervise youth volunteers participating in the Youth Disaster Corps Program and ensure that each shift is consistently filled with appropriate activities.
Responsibilities: Coordinates with Assistant Director, Youth Services to plan activities for each shift
Decides whether it is appropriate for youth to respond in emergency situations
Evaluates the program continuously and identifies areas for improvement
Manages and schedules additional training for youth volunteers
Qualifications: Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Sound judgment
Problem solving and decision making skills
New York State Driver’s license
Experience in disaster response and working with youth a plus
Training: Volunteer Orientation (2 hours)
Fulfilling Our Mission (3 hours)
Mass Care: An Overview (3 hours)
Shelter Operations (3 hours)
Shelter Simulation (3 hours)
Defensive Driving (6 hours)
Time Commitment: One to four Saturdays or Sundays per month from 12 pm – 5 pm
