| Primary Function: |
*VISTA members commit to serve full-time for one year at a nonprofit organization or local government agency, working to fight illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, strengthen community groups, and much more.
The American Red Cross in Greater New York is looking for an AmeriCorps* VISTA member to serve at our Chapter Headquarters in Manhattan. |

| Responsibilities: |
Assisting with and promoting emergency preparedness within K-12 population. VISTA Member(s) will actively pursue partnerships with local schools, religious organizations and community based organizations within low income communities in the area office jurisdiction to recruit youth volunteers, and create Red Cross Clubs to facilitate presentations and community trainings.
Engaging the college population in the community through emergency preparedness. Through the creation of college based clubs the VISTA Member(s) will assist students in providing public awareness, information and resources to areas identified as low income.
Researching and developing family and child readiness programs in local low income communities. Programs will raise public awareness for children and families residing within the community to be empowered with knowledge and tools to prepare for, prevent and respond to disasters.
Building upon program successes and sharing best practices between local communities and other AmeriCorps*VISTA members and sites. Low-income communities will receive services that are tailored to their community and will celebrate community successes. |

| Qualifications: |
Microsoft proficiency
Good public speaking skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills |

Volunteer Orientation (2 hours)

| Time Commitment: |
35 hours per week during regular business hours, 12 month requirement |
