On Thursday, July 20, a new American Red Cross sport-utility vehicle was dedicated at the Staten Island area office of the chapter. The vehicle was dedicated to State Sen. John J. Marchi for his role in securing funds from the state budget for its purchase.
"We are grateful to Senator Marchi for helping us to carry out our mission,” said Staten Island Director Suzanne Lutz, who expects the Jeep to be used on a daily basis to transport volunteers, deliver food and other items to disaster victims, and to help evacuate victims from disaster scenes if necessary. “This has made such a difference for our disaster team.”
Senator Marchi indicated that the Red Cross holds a special place in his heart and that he hopes to continue to help “whenever a dire need, requiring a good amount of money and commitment” may arise.
