ARC/GNY at Queens Community Day

ARC/GNY at Queens Community Day

American Red Cross in Greater New York (ARC/GNY) youth volunteer Lindsey Perez and New York City Councilman Leroy Comrie (District 27) distributed emergency preparedness information and informed more than 700 residents on how to remain cool during the hot summer and safe during storms such as hurricanes at the July 29th Wayanda Park Community Day. The event was sponsored by Councilman Comrie, who supports ARC/GNY preparedness outreach to all New York City residents. The Red Cross "Go-Bag” he is holding is filled with supplies (including water, food bars, flashlight and batteries) that a person may need during an emergency. The name of the Queens park is derived from the Native American word for “The Place of Happy Hearts.” Wayanda Park is bounded by Hollis Avenue, Robard Lane and P.S. 34.
