January 19, 2012 West Point held it's yearly January blood drive at the Service Academy's Eisenhower Hall between Jan. 9 and 12, 2012. The drive was sponsored by West Point’s Armed Services Blood Program, which directly benefits military members and their families in every service branch. More than 75 American Red Cross volunteers assisted with registration, offered guidance and comfort at medical stations, and provided blood donors with food, as well as water/juice after blood was donated. January 17, 2012 A team of Red Cross relief workers responded to the scene of a gas explosion that destroyed a townhouse in West Haverstraw, N.Y. (Rockland County) the afternoon of Jan. 16. December 29, 2011 2011 has been quite a year for our region. Actually it was the year when our region truly came to be, with the Greater New York, Long Island, Westchester and Greenwich, CT, chapters joining forces to become the new Greater New York Region.Together we responded to more than 2,500 fires, building collapses, floods and other emergencies, providing care and compassion to nearly 15,000 people affected by these incidents. December 28, 2011 After a 3-alarm fire severely damaged a residential building this morning on Van Cortlandt Park Ave., the Red Cross was called to the scene by the Yonkers Office of Emergency Management (OEM) to support those affected by the blaze. Upon their arrival, to keep the residents warm, relief workers immediately distributed blankets and sweatsuits, and set up a reception center in a neighboring building.
